What money will I receive for living costs (maintenance funding)?

Answer

Undergraduate students starting courses in 2017 no longer qualify for maintenance grants because of the changes that came into force in 2016. They instead qualify for a larger loan to support them with living costs. This is called the ‘maintenance loan’. The amount you will receive depends upon your household income and whether or not you will be living in the parental home. Make sure you have asked to be ‘income assessed’. This will mean that evidence of your household income (your parents’ income, in most cases) will need to be provided. You can work out how much you entitled to with the student funding calculator: https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-calculator  This will also tell you if you entitled to extra student funding, e.g. if you’re disabled or have children.
