Are there any hardship funds available to help me financially whilst I am a student?

Answer

The Salford Support Fund (SSF) is a fund to help students who need extra financial support either because they have higher than average costs, or face unexpected financial problems during their course. SSF is a fund of last resort and it is expected that you have applied for and are receiving your full entitlement of student finance first.  All ‘home’ students who are already receiving their Student Finance England funding are eligible to apply. Not all students will be awarded as a full financial assessment is carried out. All awards are non-repayable.

Please see https://www.salford.ac.uk/askus/our-services/money-matters/salford-support-fund for more information about eligibility to apply. You apply online and upload your evidence to your online application. Your application can take up to 25 working days to be processed. You will then receive a decision letter by email.

If you need to contact the team with any questions or you are having problems with the application, you can email them via salfordsupportfund@salford.ac.uk.

Please note that EU and international students cannot apply to the SSF but can email moneymatters@salford.ac.uk if they are experiencing financial hardship, in order to explore alternatives and be referred for other help. Alternatively, they can book an appointment with the specialist financial adviser by ringing 0161 295 0023, then choosing Option 2 and then Option 1 or by booking an appointment using your Advantage account.
