Answer

If we have received confirmation from the Student Loans Company that you have a tuition fee loan in place for this academic year, then you shouldn’t arrive at the fee payment page during your online registration.

If we have not received the confirmation, then you will only be able to carry on through the online registration if you choose to register as a self-paying student. By doing this it means that you can gain access to all services, including your learning material such as blackboard.

You will likely need to set up a payment plan to cover your tuition fees. You will need to select ‘payment in instalments by debit/credit card’ and set up your instalment plan, don’t panic though, the first instalment will not be due until the last day of the following month you started the course. This instalment plan can be cancelled when we receive the confirmation from the Student Loan Company that you have a tuition fee loan that covers your full tuition.

Please be aware though, if you are later declined a Tuition Fee Loan and are still in attendance 2 weeks after your official course start date, then you will be liable for payment of your Fees. It is important that you apply for your Tuition Fee Loan well in advance of starting University and you will need to apply for this each year of your course. We also suggest keeping note of the payment plan that is set up when registering and keeping the income and treasury team updated if there are delays to your loan being approved.

You can contact Student Finance to enquire why we may not have been notified of your loan.

Reasons may include:

  1. You applied to another University and have not changed it with Student Finance
  2. You have not finalised your loan and Student Finance are awaiting further evidence
  3. You did not sign your declaration to accept your loan
  4. The spelling of your name differs on your loan application to your University application

If you need to contact Student Finance England team, their contact details are:

Social Media (should you have an account) - Twitter or Facebook

If you have applied for Student Finance, you will need to sign and return your Declaration Form to Student Finance as soon as possible. This is so that the University can be notified of your tuition fee payment arrangements, but also so that you receive your maintenance loan as quickly as possible once you’ve registered.

If you have already done this and can see no obvious reason for the issue you can contact our Fees & Awards team for advice by emailing SA-TuitionFees@salford.ac.uk quoting your Student Finance Student Support Number or your Customer Reference Number.
