Q. Where can I get help with my academic writing?
There are a number of resources available from the Skills for Learning team to help you with academic writing. The 'spelling and apostrophes' study guide will show you how to avoid common errors and show you how to be accurate in your academic work.
The '5 Steps to Essay Success' eLearning will guide you the stages of planning and writing an academic assignment. For guidance on how to avoid common mistakes in your work, check out our academic misconduct eLearning. This outlines the 7 academic and essay writing mistakes that the University considers to be academic misconduct. In other words, the things you mustn't do because they are poor academic practice, can lose you marks and therefore impact on your final degree classification.
The University also offers the Wordscope course. Wordscope is delivered through a series of ten writing workshops and is designed to help you improve your academic writing skills. During the free writing workshops, you will focus on common writing problems such as how to punctuate correctly, how to construct complete sentences, and how to build coherent paragraphs.
